DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT

Buddhism teaches that "all phenomena in the universe are manifestations of the Law" (Gosho Zenshu, p. 564). I hope you will, with this understanding, engage in broad-ranging studies with vigor and determination. The brain has a potential as vast and boundless as the universe. How then do we manifest the brain's full creative powers? There is only one way to bring out our full intellectual capacity: by constantly putting our minds to work.

Espero que, con esta comprensión, se comprometan en los estudios de amplio alcance con vigor y determinación. El cerebro tiene un potencial tan vasto e ilimitado como el universo. Everyone born in this world has a unique role that only he or she can fulfill. Were this not the case, we would not be here. The universe never acts without cause; everything invariably has a reason for being. Even the weeds people love to loathe serve a purpose. I might even say that every cherry blossom has its own personality, a purpose and meaning in life that is unique to it--as do the plum, peach and damson.

Toda persona nacida en este mundo tiene un papel único que sólo él o ella puede cumplir. Si no fuera así, no estaríamos aquí. El universo nunca actúa sin causa, todo siempre tiene una razón de ser. In a passage of the "Record of the Orally Transmitted Teachings," Nichiren observes, "When you bow to a mirror, the reflected image bows back" (Gosho Zenshu, p. 769). People who respect others are respected by others in turn. Those who are unstinting in their compassion and concern for others are also protected and supported by others. Our environment is essentially a reflection of ourselves.

En un pasaje del "Registro de las enseñanzas transmitidas oralmente", Nichiren señala: "Cuando te inclinas frente a un espejo, la imagen reflejada también se inclina " (Gosho Zenshu, p. 769). "Nonviolence" does not merely mean to refrain from violence. Violence erupts when one person blames another for a problem or conflict. Conversely, nonviolence is a way of life in which one resolves; let me be the one to change first. If this spirit were to be embraced, how much more at peace would our families and society itself be.

Buddhism is reason. It is vital, therefore, that our lives and our activities in society also accord with reason. Please manifest the principle of "faith equals daily life," so that you will be trusted, respected and emulated by others. Bringing fragrant flowers of trust and humanism to bloom throughout society is one of the goals of Buddhism. To do things that others find strange and unnatural, that run counter to common sense--such actions go against the basic tenets of Buddhism and amount to slander of the Law.

El budismo es razón. Es vital, por lo tanto, que nuestras vidas y nuestras actividades en la sociedad también acuerden con la razón. Por favor, manifiesten el principio de "la fe es igual a la vida cotidiana", por lo tanto Uds. dignos de confianza, respetados y darán ejemplo para otros. The word "character" originated from the Greek words meaning "sculpture" and "impression." Character, then, could be thought of that which is shaped or etched. It may be true from a medical perspective that our psychological and physiological traits are generally predetermined genetically. Knowing this, however, adds little to our lives. The only issue that matters is how we can better ourselves here and now.

The real benefit of the Mystic Law is inconspicuous. Just as trees grow taller and stronger year after year, adding growth rings that are imperceptible to the human eye, we too will grow toward a victorious existence. For this reason it is important that we lead tenacious and balanced lives based on faith.Es mucho más valioso buscar los puntos fuertes de los demás - no se gana nada criticando las imperfecciones de la gente.

It is much more valuable to look for the strengths in others-you gain nothing by criticizing people's imperfections.
